With the support of CAST Gründungszentrum GmbH, 2PCS Solutions GmbH was founded in Innsbruck. In addition to the Universität Innsbruck Universitätsbeteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, the Europäischen Akademie Bozen and RF-Embedded GmbH, people from the 2PCS project team are involved in the company. The next steps towards market entry are initiated together.

The 2PCS CAST team was formed for the preparation of series production and the preparation of a technical implementation schedule, in order to work out, together with the experts from the CAST start-up center, critical success criteria as well as additional markets for 2PCS and to implement measures to found 2PCS Solutions GmbH.

The enthusiasm for the 2PCS idea that has been felt from the outset and has always been maintained, as well as the positive results achieved in the project and the demand from our target groups, have confirmed that we are pursuing the intended market launch. The 2PCS solution, which was developed with the active involvement and support of over 2,500 users and numerous user organizations, had to be developed further for series production.

The core development team of the 2PCS project decided after the end of the project in a pre-founding team to tackle the necessary measures with personal commitment. Our 2PCS advisory board, consisting of experts from the preliminary projects, gave us great support during this phase.

As part of the international project “2PCS – Personal Protection and Caring System”, a mobile and universal service and emergency call system with diverse localization and communication functions for different phases of life as well as care and support structures was developed. The system was tested in a total of 3 different pilot assignments in Austria and Italy as well as in Switzerland with call center connection & services. The focus of the project was to increase mobility, improve service and communication access and support the subjective and objective feeling of security. The experimental development led to a holistic system solution consisting of a 2PCS clock, 2PCS radio structure and 2PCS management software that can flexibly control processes in various living and care structures using the web. The results have shown that 2PCS has the potential to be ready for series production 2 to 3 years after the end of the project. The implemented process and technology mix of 2PCS allows unique security and convenience functionalities to be offered, taking into account multi-national legal requirements in various market segments.

Based on the feasibility study, the needs of the target groups in inpatient care and support facilities were ascertained and analyzed, and legal framework conditions and ethical requirements were checked to ensure that the safety management system HyCaT (hardware and software) could be used by the users. The constant integration of users (employees and residents) in the iterative development and test phases led to a needs-based, minimally invasive solution.

Thanks to the technical integration, HyCaT is compatible with common nurse call systems and alarm servers. In emergency situations, devices can be located inside and outside of buildings in accordance with the law, so that those affected can be helped if necessary.

The aim of the feasibility study by the Tiroler Zukunftsstiftung (now Tiroler Standortagentur) was to develop a first concept for the development of a minimally invasive disoriented emergency system (SOS triggering and localization options inside and outside of buildings) for use in inpatient care and support facilities. Using existing autonomous technologies, it was demonstrated in the rapid prototyping process that technical feasibility seems fundamentally feasible. Both the proposed localization methods and the positive cost-benefit analysis led to the decision to initialize the experimental development of the solution.
